For those interested in being a part of the School of Theatre at OSA, please check this space in late September for information about how you can audition for us. We are accepting applications for our 6th grade class for the 2018-2019 starting in October. An announcement about the availability of spaces in our 7th-12th grade classes will be made soon.
Students auditioning into our middle school grades (6-8) are asked to prepare a monologue from a list of approved monologues. We will post that list in October. An auditioning student MUST choose a monologue from that list. We do not accept original material.
Students auditioning for our high school grades (9-12) must audition into one of the following majors:
- MUSICAL THEATRE
- PLAYWRITING & PRODUCTION (which includes playwriting/screenwriting, directing, dramaturgy)
[NOTE: Students may audition for as many majors as they like, but will only be accepted into one if they are accepted into our program.]
For ACTING, students must read a play by one of the playwrights listed below and prepare a 60-90 second monologue. They can expect to be directed and be asked to do their monologue at least one more time (though this is not guaranteed). We expect the student has read the play.
For MUSICAL THEATRE, students must read a play by one of the playwrights listed below and prepare a 60-90 second monologue. They must also prepare 32 bars of a song from a published musical or a musical that has been performed on Broadway. Expect to sing a capella (you may use your phone as a pitch pipe if needed).
For PLAYWRITING & PRODUCTION, students must read a play by one of the playwrights listed below and be prepared to extensively discuss the play with the panel. A list of discussion questions will be posted in October. Students must also submit an original writing sample. We'd prefer a short play, but 2-3 poems, a short story, or an autobiographical piece are perfectly acceptable (typed preferred, but handwritten will be accepted).
